Bastian Loewen has been involved with photography on and off for a major portion of his life. Even though his photographs have not been put into the limelight, his skills behind the lens were obvious to me on first slight. Let’s welcome Bastian Loewen as the next member of the ever growing United Skateboard Photography Project.
Where are you currently located / living?
I’m living in Leverkusen/ Germany with my girlfriend and my daughter. I’m 37 years old.
How old are you and how long have you been involved with photography?
My first contact with photography was at the age of 8, but then I totally lost the focus on shooting photos. Now I’m back on it since 6 years.
What type of camera do you shoot with?
I have a Nikon FE 2, a Nikon D600 and the good old Russian Hasselblad clone – the Kiev 88.
What is your favorite photography accessory other than your camera?
2 Nikon Speedlights
If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
What makes a skate photograph original and unique: basically what is your idea of a good photo?
An empty street spot + a skateboarder with style.
Name the first photographer that comes to your mind and why?
Sem Rubio! I love his dark style and he is a very nice person!
What do you feel is the most challenging thing about skateboard photography?
To find a good angle to not have the filmer in the photo. haha

I only shot with friends and I never gave a photo to a magazine. I started skateboarding when i was 11 years old.
